Behind the Scenes of Amazon’s Pet Food Giants: Uncovering Their Chinese Suppliers
If you're a supplier, importer, or just curious about how big players in the U.S. pet food market operate — this breakdown is for you.
Hello everyone! Today, let’s take a deep dive into the Pet Food category on Amazon US. The goal here isn’t product selection — it’s about uncovering the supply chains behind major overseas sellers, especially identifying who their suppliers are and what kind of companies they work with.
Why Focus on Pet Food?
The pet food category on Amazon US is massive — with a market size of over $600 million, it’s one of the platform’s heavyweight categories. But here’s the interesting part: around 80% of the products are sold directly by Amazon (Amazon Retail).
Amazon holds about 81% of total category sales, racking up an estimated 690K–700K orders per month. Third-party sellers account for 18%, which still equates to a staggering 160K+ monthly orders.
What’s more surprising? Chinese sellers have essentially zero presence here — this category is dominated entirely by foreign brands and sellers.
So, What Can We Analyze?
Since we can’t analyze Amazon Retail (because it's Amazon’s own operation), we shifted our attention to third-party sellers. One big name that stands out is Peticle, which is pulling in over 100K monthly orders — clearly one of the top players in the U.S. pet market.
Today, we’ll investigate Peticle’s supply chain to see if we can trace their suppliers and determine whether they can be potential partners.
Tracing the Supply Chain of a Top Seller
Sure enough, Peticle appears to be a Tier 1 mega-seller. According to recent data, they made over $7 million in sales last month alone, and likely even more in reality. With thousands of feedback ratings per month, it’s safe to say this is a serious operation.
Our goal is to identify their suppliers. By checking the corporate registration info tied to Peticle, we found about four related companies — all with similar names like “Pet Animal” — frequently making international purchases.
Digging deeper, we discovered they often use DHL for shipping, which indicates:
-
They’re using express commercial shipping, often for products with high turnover or profit margins.
-
After excluding DHL entries, we still found nine suppliers — all based in China.
Let’s Look at the Chinese Suppliers
After some basic company research, we found their top supplier: a company called Wuxi Economic & Trade Co., a well-established international exporter from China. On their website, it’s clear that pet products are a core part of their business. If they’re supplying Amazon’s top third-party pet brand, they’re definitely worth talking to.
Another supplier we identified is Tianyuan Pet Products, based in Hangzhou. Their site shows a full range of dog and cat products, and guess what? Peticle is listed as one of their official partners.
Yet another is Zhongheng Pet, located in Jiangsu — also a professional pet supply manufacturer. And finally, we found a Ningbo-based supplier through 1688 International, with a fully pet-focused catalog and a well-verified shop.
These are clearly top-tier suppliers — their production quality, certifications, and supply capabilities are all aligned with what’s needed to serve top Amazon sellers. If you can identify and work with these kinds of suppliers, it’s much more effective than blindly picking products.
More Suppliers, More Opportunities
The supplier network goes even deeper. One related U.S. company alone had 18 different suppliers. We didn’t list all of them here, but we’ll prepare a full supplier list to share later.
What we want to emphasize is: Instead of obsessing over product selection, consider this:
🚨 You might not need a better product. You need a better supplier.
Why Quality Suppliers Matter
Even if you’ve chosen a good product, you’ll struggle in the long run without a reliable supplier. Delays, quality issues, or inconsistent service can ruin your progress. That’s why finding the right supplier from the beginning is crucial.
Our suggestion: Start by uncovering the top suppliers behind the top Amazon sellers. Once you’ve got a high-quality, proven manufacturer, then explore developing winning products together.
We’ll continue researching supply chains behind major international sellers and introduce you to more top Chinese suppliers that are already successfully exporting pet products worldwide.
Let’s work together to take more great “Made in China” products global. Keep pushing forward — we’ve got this!
