Do you know why cats have such beautiful eyes?

Cats are renowned for having some of the most beautiful eyes in the pet world. Unlike the styles created by owners with grooming tools, their eyes naturally have an exquisite, translucent quality, much like amber. During the day, their pupils are slit vertically, giving them a majestic and aloof appearance, while at night, their pupils widen into round shapes, making them appear soft and adorable. Many cat owners love to capture these beautiful moments of their cats' eyes, especially after grooming them with a pet comb.
As we know, cats are nocturnal animals. They typically sleep during the day and become active at night. It's common for owners to find their cats napping all day while they’re trying to groom them, only to be woken up by the cats late at night, who demand attention with toys or their pet combs. Cats' eyes are capable of detecting even the faintest light, and their vision has a wide field of around 200 degrees. At night, their pupils dilate and reflect a fluorescent hue, allowing them to clearly see even things like their owner's pet comb. Certain breeds, such as Persians, have particularly soft fur after grooming and may even have heterochromia (two different colored eyes). However, a cat’s pupils don’t always remain narrow during the day. Instead, they adjust according to the light intensity. When the sun rises or the light becomes stronger, their pupils constrict into slits to avoid discomfort from direct light, much like humans squinting when looking at the sun. However, a cat's vision differs from humans in that they see clearly only in certain ways. When grooming cats with a pet comb, owners might notice their cats' eyes adjusting as their pupils change, influenced by emotions. For example, when a cat is angry, its pupils will constrict, and when it is happy, the pupils may dilate. Interestingly, a kitten's eye color isn’t immediately apparent at birth. Kittens are born with blue eyes, often referred to as "blue membrane" eyes. As they grow older, their eye color gradually becomes permanent, reflecting their genetic traits. If an owner raises a kitten from a young age, they may notice this change while grooming or during other activities like using a pet comb. Cat eyes come in a variety of stunning and vibrant colors. While they are far-sighted and colorblind, they are unable to focus on objects closer than about 8 inches (20 cm). They can distinguish between general shades of blue, green, and yellow but cannot see red. It’s said that the color of a cat’s eyes is also determined by the amount of pigment deposited in their retinas. The range of eye colors, from light lemon yellow, pale green, and brown to deep orange-yellow or brown, is related to the amount of melanin in the retina. If there is no melanin, the eyes will appear blue. So, the next time you’re grooming your cat with a pet comb, take a moment to observe the color of your cat’s eyes. What color do you see?
