Follow the Rules and Leash Your Dog Properly
The principle "Do not harm others unless you are harmed" applies to humans as well as dogs. Dogs typically don't attack strangers without reason. However, even when you follow the rules and keep your dog on a leash, disaster can still strike unexpectedly. That’s why when walking your dog, you should also consider bringing a muzzle! Along with a retractable leash, let’s take a closer look.
When walking your dog, you’ll encounter a variety of people. Some like dogs, while others dislike them. People who are annoyed by dogs may make sarcastic remarks, while dog lovers will be attracted to your dog and might come over to pet it. However, they don’t always consider that dogs can be wary of strangers and may not feel safe. In some cases, they could even become aggressive. A dog may growl as a warning to stop someone’s actions, or it could bite if the behavior doesn’t cease.
Recently, Mike, who always walks his dog on a leash and follows the regulations, experienced an unfortunate incident. This happened after the new dog ownership regulations in Hangzhou were enforced, which required people to walk their dogs before 7 a.m. Mike adhered to the rules, and his Alaskan Malamute mix dog was properly leashed. One day, while walking in his neighborhood, he encountered two young women who appeared to be a bit intoxicated. They were excited, and although Mike’s dog initially tried to avoid them, one of the women, Ms. Liu, who claimed to love dogs, decided to approach and kneel down to pet his dog. Unfortunately, the dog bit her on the nose, and she required more than 30 stitches at the hospital. As a result, Mike had to cover her medical expenses of over 8,000 yuan. Moreover, because his dog was a banned breed, it was taken away by the authorities. It was truly an unfortunate situation for Mike.
Mike had always thought that by walking his dog on a leash and avoiding strangers, he would be safe from such incidents. He never imagined that he would have to pay for someone else's negligence and that his dog would be affected as well. From now on, Mike suggests that dog owners take an extra precaution—by putting a muzzle on their dogs. This could help prevent the dog from eating anything off the ground and could also prevent similar incidents from happening to others!
