How to Keep Your Cat Warm in Winter?

November is almost over, and it's once again the time of year when cats go crazy looking for warmth. What makes pet owners in the South envy the cats in the North? It's the heating! It's the warm, cozy temperature that fills the house during the winter! Cats in the North can freely enjoy the warmth from the radiators, while those in the South have to carefully snuggle up near a single heater. However, cats have fewer neurons than humans, and their pain sensitivity is not as sharp, so they don't feel the discomfort of their fur being singed as acutely. This makes it easy for them to accidentally get burned while trying to stay warm. So, how can pet owners help their cats stay warm at home?

 1. Prepare a clean, warm bed. Although there are many electric heated cat beds available on the market, for safety reasons, I wouldn't recommend leaving your cat in one all the time. Instead, choose a spot in the house that gets good sunlight but also provides some shade, and lay down a thick blanket that’s bathed in sunlight. You can also place a hot water bottle to pre-warm the bed, so your cat can curl up comfortably inside.

 2. Pay attention to winter cleanliness and temperature changes. With the changing seasons, there will inevitably be big temperature shifts, especially when your cat is shedding a lot. It's essential to brush your cat daily to check its health and remove loose fur. Brushing also helps remove dead hair and any fleas or tiny bugs that might be hiding. If your cat spends a lot of time indoors, you can occasionally turn on the air conditioner to provide some warmth, open the windows for ventilation, and ensure a fresh airflow with proper humidity, so the environment doesn't become too hot or uncomfortable for your cat.

 3. Provide warm water, food, and clothing. Unlike humans, cats and dogs don’t necessarily need hot food, but very cold water can reduce their willingness to drink. Some theories suggest that cats prefer to eat and drink at around 35°C (95°F). Therefore, you can prepare some warm water and food for them during the winter to ensure they eat properly. For cats that shed heavily or are hairless, it’s a good idea to choose loose and comfortable pet clothes to keep them warm! In fact, many cats love to snuggle up with their owners in bed for warmth during the winter.

You can clean your mattress in advance, take care of dust mites, and then cuddle your cat for a cozy, warm dream together!
