How to Properly Pick Up Your Dog?

For pet owners, there's nothing quite like holding your fluffy, warm pet during the winter, especially since a dog's body temperature is like having a portable heater. However, many times, dogs tend to struggle and jump out of their owners’ arms. Even when using a pet brush to groom, they can’t resist running away. Learning how to properly hold your beloved pet is a challenge for many. By mastering the right techniques and finding the proper method, we can easily pick up our dogs!
1. Small Dogs (Under 6kg) Start by supporting the dog's chest just behind the front legs with one hand. With your other hand, hold the collar to control the dog’s head. Then, gently tuck the dog under your left arm, keeping it close to your body to minimize movement. 2. Medium or Large Dogs (Over 9kg) Place one hand beneath the dog's neck, and use the other hand to support the dog’s hindquarters. This will help you lift the dog more securely. If your pet weighs over 18kg, it's best to ask a friend for help. Don't try to lift it by yourself, as medium to large dogs can be strong and hard to control. 3. Key Points for Picking Up Your Dog = Patience + Care Bend your knees to lower your body and approach the dog at its height. Avoid bending straight down as it might scare the dog. Use a leash or towel to help control the dog, and never use force against its jumping and wriggling. Never pull on the dog's front limbs or neck. Pulling on the front limbs can damage the legs and spine muscles, while pulling on the neck can increase the dog’s anxiety. When picking up the dog, use the leash to guide it, not to restrain it tightly. Tight restraints can make the dog feel more scared and likely to avoid being picked up. Before picking up your dog, brush its fur with a pet brush to help remove loose hair, especially during shedding seasons in the fall and winter. This will make the experience more comfortable for both you and your pet!
