How are Pet Products in Yiwu Commercial City?

Today, let's talk about Area 5 of Yiwu Commercial City, which is primarily dedicated to pet and aquatic products. There are currently around 70 to 80 pet-related businesses in this area, mostly focusing on foreign trade and export. This area is one of the largest pet product sales bases in China, with most of the businesses being source factories, offering a wide range of products and complete varieties. Leveraging Yiwu's well-established market system, favorable foreign trade environment, and open import and export policies, it has become a hub for both domestic and international pet product distribution. After years of development, Yiwu has become a key gateway for domestic companies exporting products to Europe, the US, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other countries and regions. At the same time, with the rapid development of Yiwu's import market in recent years, it has also become an important transit hub for imported pet products entering China. From exchanging small goods to global trade, from selling goods to self-producing and self-selling, from imitation to innovation, Yiwu's entrepreneurial spirit has enabled its people to achieve remarkable development across generations.
Now, let's hear from Mr. He Xinfeng, the Executive President of the Zhejiang Pet Products Industry Association, about his views on Yiwu: Q: What do you think are the main advantages of Yiwu's pet industry? A: About 90% of the pet products come from Yiwu's exports. If something is going to be exported from China, 50% of it is shipped out from Yiwu. Q: So, when did Yiwu start showing this advantage in the pet industry? A: Around 2003. Q: 2003, that's quite early? A: Yes, in 2003, there were three key players in the market. The real boom started around 2010, after which the industry began to expand rapidly. Q: So, in 2003, Yiwu had the shape of a pet industry, and after 2010, it grew rapidly? A: Yes, exactly. Q: How many production factories are there around Yiwu in total? A: For pet products, there are at least 400 to 500 factories around Yiwu. Q: 500 factories? How many merchants are currently in Area 5? A: Currently, there are 67 merchants. The area is large, with some shops being around 53 square meters, and the largest ones being up to 240 square meters. Q: The decoration looks much better than before. I assume these pet products are mainly for export, and yes, Europe and the US must be the biggest markets. A: Yes, the growth rate in South America is very high right now. Europe and the US are very mature markets, but South America, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia are growing fast. India and Brazil are experiencing rapid growth, and the market there is excellent. Pet products are great because they don't have an expiration date like food—most of the time, it’s just a matter of different styles and trends. What is sold this year can still be sold next year or even the year after. Q: So, Yiwu factories were originally in other industries? A: Yes, many factories in Yiwu started in other sectors, but in recent years, the pet industry has been growing rapidly. It spreads through friends, and the growth rate is fast, with an annual growth rate of about 10%. Q: What changes have you noticed in the overall pet industry? A: The most notable change is the growth in volume. The annual growth rate is around 20%, and businesses here typically see at least a 10% increase each year. Finally, President He welcomed pet businesses from all over the country to settle in Yiwu, and to engage in global trade through Yiwu.
