How to Put a Harness and Leash on Your Cat

More and more people in big cities are choosing to adopt cats. Cats are pets that tend to be less obedient compared to others; they are alert and sensitive, with remarkable speed and awareness, responding quickly to stimuli. As such, putting a harness and leash on a cat can be quite challenging. When selecting a harness for your cat, there are a few key things to consider. A harness with a chest strap is actually a great option, as the cat's neck area is quite delicate. Using a harness that goes around the chest can effectively distribute the pressure, reducing strain on the neck. So, what should you keep in mind when putting a harness on your cat?
As a manufacturer of pet harnesses, Shengkang would like to offer some advice. When putting a chest harness on your cat, make sure it passes over the chest between the two front legs to ensure comfort. While putting it on, be careful not to tighten it too much, as this can interfere with the cat’s breathing. On the other hand, it shouldn’t be too loose, as a loose harness will allow the cat to easily slip out, given their flexible bodies. At the beginning of the training process, your cat may resist and try to escape from the harness. Don't force it on the cat right away. Instead, try to drag the harness around inside your home to attract the cat’s attention. Once the cat is intrigued, you can gently place the harness on it and let it get used to the sensation. Next, try separating the chest harness from the leash and let the cat wear the chest harness alone to become more familiar with it. Once the cat no longer shows resistance, you can connect the leash to the harness and begin practicing walking with the cat indoors.
Keep in mind: For the first outdoor walk, don’t go too far. Stick to a nearby, safe area with few people and vehicles, as too much commotion might startle your cat. If your cat appears very frightened or agitated, it’s important to stop the activity immediately. Continuing might cause the cat to develop an aversion to this activity in the future.
